Ph.D in Sociology from Urbino University, Italy (2004).

Currently, Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Messina (Italy) and member of the:
- Department of Economics, Mathematics,  Statistics and Sociology “Pareto” of the University of Messina;
- Interuniversity Center for the Research on Sociology of Law, Information and Legal Institutions of the Universities of Messina and Macerata (CIRSDIG);
- Interuniversity Center for the Quantitative, Socio-economical and Epidemiological Research on Risk and Health Perception of the Universities of Messina and Florence (PRISMA).

Fellow researcher at the Department of Anthropology of The Graduate Center of the City University of New York (2003); Adjunct professor at Center for the Study of Ethnicity and Race of Columbia University, New York (2007); Provisional faculty member and instructor at the Onati International Institute for the Sociology of Law (2012). 

Worked with World Health Organization-European Office, and other national institutions in the fields of risk perception, environmental abuses in the Italian "Areas at risk", and public health. Cooperated with the Groupe Européen de Recherches sur les Normativités (Gern), in the frame of the FP6 Project “Crimprev”, investigating the informal labor markets in Italy and the role played by foreign and national actors.

Researched immigration (with a particular focus on Maghreb and Roma communities in Italy), labor markets, informal economy,  prostitution, urban development and environment, gender, family and social politics.

Mostly interested in qualitative methods, ethnography, and constructivist paradigms. In particular, the main endeavor is developing a critical reflection on the roles of capital, state, and the control agencies in structuring existing relations in the matters of immigration, labor, development, and social policies. Mainly concerned with the strategies of the lay actors vis-a-vis the public and private institutions, and the interplays taking place in the context of everyday life.
